bendigo or bust

Taking advantage of the few weekends this summer with predicted good weather, John & I headed off to Bendigo to visit his ex-army mate Jeff & partner Sandy. We left about 11am & headed down the Monash, then over the West Gate Bridge & on to the Calder Hwy, stopping at Keilor to refuel. Roads were a bit rough with lots of potholes (probably because of the recent heavy rains).

The next stop was not far from Bendigo, but we both needed to stretch our legs a bit. My hands took a while to stop 'humming'!

It was really getting warm by this stage, so we pushed on to Kangaroo Flats where Jeff had an ice cold drink waiting for us… much appreciated!

A little later on we all got back on the bikes & rode to Lake Eppalock to see how the recent flood waters had affected the area.

The power of the water flowing through the spillway was incredible!

On the way back we stopped for 'quick' drink at the pub, where we met one of the locals, then headed back to the house for a bbq dinner & another 'few' drinks, followed by a good night's sleep.

In the morning we drove into town to have breakfast at the historic Shamrock Hotel, & then wandered around to have a look at some of the beautiful buildings. Then we headed back to the house to get ready for the trip home.

Overall impressions… a lovely trip to do over a weekend, lovely weather, not too long or tiring, great destination, lots to see & do, great to see Jeff & Sandy again, home safe & sound!
